Work on your reading, writing, math, English language or computer skills for free right here at the library. Waukegan Public Library can help you to open the door to a better future.

We provide educational opportunities for adults in reading, writing, math, speaking English, learning to use computers, and more! For some programs, you may need to meet with a library staff member before beginning. Other programs are on a drop-in basis.

All our classes and programs are free of charge.

Adult Literacy Tutoring

Trained volunteer tutors meet one on one with adults seeking to improve their reading, writing, and math skills or to learn English. If you would like to schedule a one on one tutor or volunteer with the program, please call 847-775-2547 or email.

Conversational ESL

Students in our Conversational ESL class learn and practice speaking English in groups with tutors and other students about ordinary subjects, like holidays, families, or work. For more information about Conversational ESL, please call 847-775-2547 or email.

Computer Classes

Classes in basic mouse and keyboard skills, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and the Internet are offered regularly in English and Spanish. Classes are held on weekdays and weekends during the day and evening. Go here for more information or call 847-775-2547.

Drop-in Adult Computer Lab

Need some help with your computer skills? Stop by our drop-in computer lab – no appointment or registration necessary! The walk-in lab is held Wednesdays from 10:00am – 12:00pm, and most Thursdays, 5:00pm – 7:00pm, in the computer lab on the lower level. If you have questions, please call 847-775-2562 or email.

Drop-in Get That Job Lab

Need help with your job search? We’re here for you! We’ll give you a hand writing your resume, filling out job applications, completing unemployment applications, and more. Experienced, volunteer HR professionals will work with you to get that job! Please bring your work history, job interests, flash drive/access to email and cloud account. Registration is not required. GED Preparation in Spanish

Did you know the Library can help you prepare for the GED in Spanish? We’re here to support you as you build the skills you need to pass the test and earn your GED in Spanish! Health Awareness

Take charge of your health with our Health Awareness program! You’ll learn how to access health care, choose a doctor and medical home, and make smart health decisions.
