For Schools

Waukegan Public Library offers a variety of services for teachers in Waukegan, including Waukegan School District 60 and local private, parochial, and charter schools. However, not all services are available to all schools due to funding restraints or physical requirements. If you have any questions about the availability of a particular service for your school, please contact Amanda Civitello at (847) 623-2041 ext. 231 or via email.

Teacher Cards & Loans

Library cards are easy to obtain for all teachers! Just show a photo ID and a proof of Waukegan residence. If you have a card from another library in Illinois, show ID and your library card, and you can register as a reciprocal borrower to check out items for your classroom. You may also register your Wisconsin card for borrowing privileges for the school year by coming to the Library with your home library card and school ID. The loan period for classroom loans is 6 weeks.

Library Cards for Students

A library card is available to any Waukegan resident. Children below the 9th grade or under age 14 need a parent or legal guardian to register them for a library card. When applying for a card at the Library or Hinkston Park Branch, the student or parent will need a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, a state ID, or passport and proof of residency in Waukegan, such as a current bill, mail, or lease with your name and address on it.

Library card applications are available at all library locations.

Reserving materials at the Library

Assigning a project? Let us know the topic, and we will make a cart of materials available to students who come to the Library to work on their projects. Teachers at any grade level may request a cart of items to be put on hold for easy access at the Library. For grades K-8, please contact Patrick Toto, Children’s Department manager, at (847) 623-2041 ext. 285, or via email. For grades 9-12, please contact Victor Dixon, Reference manager, at (847) 623-2041 ext. 270, or via email.

School Events

The Library would love to be part of your school’s next event! We’re always looking to connect with parents and teachers to share information about the Library’s programs and services. We typically bring giveaways and activities for kids to complete. We can create library cards on-site too – just let us know in advance. To invite the Library to attend your event, please contact Karina Martinez, engagement & events coordinator, at (847) 623-2041 ext. 273, or via email.
