On the Road to Literacy Conference
Tutors, teachers and adult learners are all invited to attend the 25th Annual on the Road to Literacy Conference on Saturday, April 9th. The event is put on by the Literacy Volunteer of Illinois. The Literacy Volunteers of Lake County are sponsoring the cost of transportation from Waukegan and Grayslake and registration for adult learners. Tutor registration is $20.
Help Your Adult Learners Share Their Writings in Collections!
Each year the Literacy Volunteers of Lake County publish a collection of adult learners’ writings. This year, submissions will be accepted from ESL and ABE learners in the Adult Literacy Tutoring Program or in classes through CLC, Mundelein High School, or Highland Park High School. Please let your students know about this opportunity by sharing the attached flyer with them. If you tutor in a classroom, please bring this opportunity to the attention of the teacher you work with. Copies of last year’s book are available upon request: 847-775-2549 or email@example.com. Click here for the flyer with all the details.
Even if your learner(s) don’t write for the book, you’re all still most welcome at the Collections party at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th at the Waukegan Public Library.
Here’s a favorite from last year’s book:
I think it’s sad that the children of this world have to see so much violence. There are wars over oil in the Middle East, there are wars over land in Eastern Europe, there are drug wars in South America, and I wonder if there will ever be a war here. I feel the pain of those who have lost so much and I think of my children. I want them to grow, I want them to be happy, and I want them to grow, I want them to be happy, and I want them to watch me as I grow into my sunset years. Will there ever be a lasting peace in this world? Let’s pray that we will see that day.
