Ryan Echevarria, College of Lake County, will present two programs in June to celebrate Pride Month. LGBTQQIAAOP – the anagram keeps getting longer, but do you know what it all means?  In this presentation, we will break down the concepts of sexuality, gender, attraction, and expression to better define the members of the LGBTQ+ community.  With this knowledge , we hope to increase your understanding so that you can work towards creating inclusive, equitable spaces in your work, school, home, and everyday lives. This program is designed for teens and adults, especially parents who want to learn more about supporting their children or their children’s friends. Bring your questions!

Becoming an Agent of Change: Building Cultural Competency through Allyship & Advocacy
Wednesday, June 26, 4:30 – 6:00pm, Adult Literacy Classroom (lower level)

In the second of two programs celebrating Pride Month, Ryan Echevarria, College of Lake County, will discuss ways to be an advocate and ally of LGBTQ+ folks of all ages, with a special focus on supporting middle- and high school-aged students. Becoming an ally is more than just knowing about LGBTQ+ community.  It is about taking that knowledge and applying it to all aspects of your life; from everyday conversations to working towards larger, societal change.  In this workshop, you will learn more about advocacy and the multitude of opportunities you have to become an ally in your day-to-day life.
