Waukegan Public Library announces new hours at its Hinkston Park Branch beginning May 1, 2017. The new hours will be:
Monday – Thursday, 11am – 7pm
Friday, 1 – 5pm
Saturday & Sunday, closed
Available services at the Branch will not be reduced, and patrons may continue to request items for pickup at the Branch, access the internet, and receive recommendations from the same wonderful staff (who will also now be providing that high level of service at the main library).
The changes are part of a broader effort to promote the continued fiscal responsibility that taxpayers have come to expect from the Library, as well as the sustainability of important resources, like staffing, after the Library’s 2016 request for an increase to its levy was not approved by City Council.
The Library regrets any inconvenience to patrons of the Branch and is grateful for their understanding. “This was a difficult decision for us,” said executive director Richard Lee. “We look forward to working closely with the City, our new Mayor, and all the aldermen and hope to restore full operating hours at the Branch as soon as possible.”
Hours at the main library on County Street in downtown Waukegan remain unchanged. Patrons will be continue to access full library services, including WiFi/web access, collections, programming, and more, including our award-winning Early Learning Center, on weekends from 1 – 5pm Saturdays and Sundays.
As always, Waukegan Public Library welcomes questions and comments from our community. Please feel free to contact Richard Lee, executive director, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
