March at Waukegan Public Library!

Waukegan Public Library welcomes spring with a number of family-friendly programs this March, including a bilingual St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The Library’s college prep series continues for young adults and their parents with programs focusing on scholarships, college and career readiness, as well as a Practice ACT. For early learners, the Library is again partnering with the United Way of Lake County to offer United Way Early Learning Clubs for preschoolers.

Special events in March 2016:

March 2: Dr. Seuss Storytime
Children will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a very special storytime and craft on Wednesday, March 2, 6:30 – 7:00pm in the Early Learning Center theatre.

March 7: Game Time!
Children in grades 3-5 will sharpen their critical thinking skills while having fun playing a variety of games with their peers, from 5:00 – 6:00pm in the Bradbury Room on Monday, March 7.

March 8: All About Scholarships
Young adults and their parents will learn tips and tricks for finding and applying for scholarships in this hands-on class, on Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30 – 7:00pm in the Computer Learning Center, main floor.

March 12: United Way Early Learning Club: Colors and Shapes – English
Preschool children will develop their skills in color and shape recognition and build their readiness for school in this fun program presented with United Way of Lake County, on Saturday, March 12, 1:30 – 2:30pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 12: United Way Early Learning Club: Numbers and Counting English
Preschool children will develop their number recognition and counting skills to prepare them for school in this fun program presented with United Way of Lake County, on Saturday, March 12, at 3:00 – 4:00pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 15: College and Career Readiness Workshop
Young adults will learn about the skills they can develop today to be successful in college and in the workplace in this special program presented in collaboration with TRiO, on Tuesday, March 15, 5:30 – 7:00pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 16: Bilingual Family St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Families are invited to Waukegan Public Library’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, with songs, crafts, hands-on activities and Irish dancing fun for all ages, on Wednesday, March 16, from 6:00 – 7:00pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 19: United Way Early Learning Club: Color and Shapes – Spanish

Preschool children will develop their alphabetic and writing skills to prepare them for school in this fun program presented with United Way of Lake County, on Sunday, March 20, from 1:30 -2:30pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 20: United Way Early Learning Club: Books and Rhyming
Preschool children will develop the comprehension skills needed for success in school through books and rhyming in this fun program presented with United Way of Lake County, on Sunday, March 20, from 3:00 – 4:00pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 21: Get Cooking!
Children in grades 3 – 5 will practice their measurement and sequencing skills through cooking in this fun, interactive program on Monday, March 21, from 5:00 – 6:30pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 23: Limerick Scavenger Hunt
Students in grades 6 – 8 will have a challenge on their hands at this scavenger hunt since the clues are limericks! Wednesday, March 23 from 5:00 – 6:30pm in the Bradbury Room.

March 28: Sensational Sixes and Sevens Spring Crafts
Children ages six and seven will create colorful spring crafts with glitter and watercolors, Monday, March 28, from 6:30 – 7:00pm in the Early Learning Center.

March 29: Practice ACT
High school students will take a full-length practice ACT test at the Library, giving them an opportunity to ease their nerves and have their questions answered by Library staff, on Tuesday, March 29, from 4:00 – 7:30pm in the Bradbury Room.
