Special events in April 2017:
April 5: Know Your Rights!
Learn about immigrants’ rights in this informative workshop presented by HACES, on Wednesday, April 5, from 6:30 – 7:30pm in the Bradbury Room.
April 5: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Middle schoolers will learn to take photos and turn them into a story at this special program, on Wednesday, April 5, from 5:00-6:00pm in the Bradbury Room.
April 14: Health Fair
Stop in to the Library for a free health screening from Vista Health – check vital signs, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose, and more, on Friday, April 14, from 10:00am – 12:00pm in classroom A on the main floor, sponsored by Lewis Fresh Market.
April 15: Genealogy
Adults will learn how to begin research into their family tree using a variety of online resources from professional genealogist Eric C. Kilby, on Saturday, April 15, from 2:00 – 3:30pm in the Bradbury Room (lower level).
April 17: Sensational Sixes and Sevens: Stamp Art
Children ages 6 and 7 will unique works of art with stamps on Monday, April 17, 6:30 – 7:00pm in the Early Learning Center sponsored by North Shore Gas.
April 17: Game Time!
Children in grades 3 – 5 will play fun, challenging, and educational games – with a side of popcorn! – on Monday, April 17, from 5:00 – 6:00pm in the Bradbury Room (lower level).
April 19: Preschool Learning Time: Patterns Galore
Preschoolers will create designs with pattern blocks on Wednesday, April 19, from11:30am – 12:00pm in the Early Learning Center sponsored by North Shore Gas.
April 19: Scavenger Hunt
Middle schoolers in grades 6-8 will find hidden treasures in this fun scavenger hunt, on Wednesday, April 19, from 5:00 – 6:00pm in the Bradbury Room (lower level).
April 24: Poetry Workshop
Children in grades 3 – 5 will celebrate National Poetry Month by learning to write their own poems at this special program, on Monday, April 24, from 5:00 – 6:00pm in the Bradbury Room (lower level).
April 24: Sensational Sixes and Sevens: All About Outer Space
Children ages six and seven will blast off with art and science activities to learn all about outer space, on Monday, April 24, from 6:30 – 7:00pm in the Early Learning Center sponsored by North Shore Gas.
April 26: Preschool Learning Time: Play Dough Fun
Preschoolers will use their imaginations to create with play dough, on Wednesday, April 26, from 11:30am – noon in the Early Learning Center sponsored by North Shore Gas.
April 25: Bound to Please Book Club
Adults are invited to join the Library’s book club, moderated by retired librarian Lourdes Mordini, on Tuesday, April 25, from 2:00 – 3:30pm in the Bradbury Room. Information on the year’s selections can be found on the library’s website, waukeganpl.org.
April 29: Easy Gardening
Adults will learn all about no-till gardening, which is a fast, easy, highly productive way to grow flowers and vegetables, on Saturday, April 29, from 2:00 – 4:40pm in classroom A on the main floor, sponsored by Lewis Fresh Market.
Special ongoing programs in April include:
High school students will watch and discuss anime TV shows and films, J-dramas and K-dramas, tokusatsu shows, and more at this weekly club meeting on Mondays from 5:30 – 7:00pm in classroom B on the main floor, sponsored by Lewis Fresh Market.
Students in grades K-12 can come to the Library Mondays through Thursdays for drop-in help with their homework with tutors. K-8 meets in the Children’s department on the lower level; 9-12 meets on the main floor. Mondays-Thursdays, 5:30 – 7:30pm.
Waukegan Public Library offers weekly storytimes for children from birth through preschool.
Babies and Books (infants and parents): Thursdays, 10:15 – 10:30am
Two-Year-Old Storytime (two-year-olds and parents): Tuesdays, 10:15 – 10:30am
Preschool Storytime (three to five year olds and parents): Mondays – Thursdays, 10:45 – 11:15am; Tuesday evenings, 5:30 – 6pm; Wednesdays, 6:30 – 7pm; Saturdays, 3:30-4pm
United Way Early Learning Clubs
Preschoolers will learn the important skills needed to succeed in school in these fun, themed programs for children ages 3 – 5! All sessions held in the Bradbury Room (lower level).
