Tools for Teachers

Bus to Us Field Trip program

The free Bus to Us field trip program introduces teachers and students to the library through a series of educational and fun lessons for students based on a set curriculum tied to Common Core State Standards and themed to the Early Learning Center exhibit. After the lessons, students are given the opportunity to explore the library and check out books before they leave. For 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders.

Kindergarten Tools for Teachers Book Bags

Kindergarten classes may have book bags of 25-30 books delivered to their school that will be exchanged monthly. This is a great way to expand the imaginative world for your students to explore in your classroom.

Library Cards for Teachers

Waukegan library cards are easy to obtain. Just show a photo ID and a proof of Waukegan residence. If you have a card from another library in Illinois, show ID and your library card, and you can register as a reciprocal borrower to check out items for your classroom. You may also register your Wisconsin card for borrowing privileges for the school year by coming to the Library with your home library card and school ID.

Library Cards for Students

A library card is available to any Waukegan resident. Children below the 9th grade or under age 14 need a parent or legal guardian to register them for a library card. When applying for a card at the Library or Hinkston Park Branch, the student or parent will need a photo ID, such as a driver’s license, a state ID, or passport and proof of residency in Waukegan, such as a current bill, mail, or lease with your name and address on it.

Library card applications are available for students served at by the Bookmobile at all library locations, including the School Bookmobile. Students served by the Bookmobile may get a free library card if they have never had a library card before and they attend a District 60 school. If their card has been lost, a $2 replacement fee is applicable.
