2010 Contest Rules & Requirements
26th Annual Ray Bradbury Writing Contest In Dandelion Wine, the summer of 1928 opens with a bloodrush of joy for Douglas Spaulding. Pausing at his window, he suddenly becomes aware of the hum and vitality of everything around him, and in him. Summer sprawls ahead, verdant and lush, like the promise of life. But as the novel unfolds, Douglas realizes that with this promise comes another—the certainty of loss, and of death. Every golden dandelion, however brilliant, will eventually gray and float away.
Using the relationship between life and death as your theme, offer a response in your choice of media. Categories for the Ray Bradbury Contest include creative writing (poems, essays, short stories), visual arts and multimedia. Winners in each category will receive $200 for Waukegan residents and $100 for non-residents. Entry deadline: Friday, March 19.
