July 27 - Edgar Garcia & The Loko Amor
Concert Image:
Loko Amor was founded in Chicago in 1996 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Edgar Garcia, who hails from Mexico. Before arriving in the U.S. in 1985, Edgar spent four years singing lead in a university-based “tuna” troubadour group which performed a wide repertoire of popular and folkloric songs from Spain and Latin America. Once arriving in the U.S., Edgar began performing at various schools, libraries, festivals, restaurants and parties and met various musicians along the way. Among these were flamenco guitarists Hector Fernandez and Thomas Kimball, who became friends and collaborators.
Loko Amor was formed with the idea of featuring a wide repertoire of popular and folkloric songs, from the gypsy rumbas of Spain to romantic boleros from Cuba, from Colombian cumbia to Mexican huapango, from the classics to new compositions.
