Job Title:  Children’s Reference Assistant

Status: Part-Time
Weekly Hours: 16 hours per week;  includes weekends and evening hours

Overview: WPL staff members provide the path to support and empower learning and discovery, with particular emphasis on Kindergarten Readiness, Grade Level Reading, College and Career Awareness, and Adult Learning.  The Library Services staff ensures all patron requests are satisfied with quality customer service at all times. The Children’s Reference Assistant provides reference services to children birth through 8th grade and adults needing services for children.  Furthermore, they will develop and present children’s programs, participate in outreach activities, and promote the material collection as it relates to readers’ advisory and programs.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor degree
2 years’ experience working with children

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Efficiently answer basic reference questions at the Children’s Reference Desk
Effectively construct a competent and complete search of the library catalog to meet patron’s needs
Familiar with library’s databases and informational websites to recommend and instruct patrons
Effectively plan and present programs as assigned
Effectively and efficiently assist patrons with computer questions
Familiar with trends in children’s literature for reader’s advisory and suggestions for purchase
Prepares error free bibliographies, pathfinders, website lists as needed
Checks lists of titles in library catalog
Maintain displays
Track and compile patron interactions with statistics
Other tasks as assigned

Skills:
Pleasant personality, able to work with a diverse public and staff
Excellent communication skills, written and oral
Spanish fluency required
Able to work efficiently and independently and complete assignments with limited supervision
Familiar with computer productivity software, e-mail and timesheets
Sound decision maker, able to respond appropriately in interpreting and applying policy
Familiar with internet resources and search strategies
Able to accurately type and/or put items in order, alphabetically and numerically

Job Title: Inventory Clerk I

Status:Part-Time
Weekly Hours: 16 hours per week; includes weekends and evening hours

Overview:WPL staff members put quality in people’s lives by listening to constituents’ needs, identifying community issues, and responding with relevant solutions while responsibly managing resources. Library Services staff ensures all patron requests are satisfied with quality customer service at all times. Inventory Team members ensure an accurate inventory of all library materials by processing returned materials, shelving, shifting and shelf maintenance including scanning and shelf-reading

 

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
2 years experience in a circulation department

Skills:
Pleasant personality, able to work with a diverse public and staff
Excellent listening and telephone skills
Able to work efficiently and independently and complete assignments with limited supervision
Familiar with computer productivity software, e-mail and timesheets
Sound decision maker, able to respond appropriately in interpreting and applying policy
Able to accurately type and/or put items in order, alphabetically and numerically
Fluent in English, oral and written; fluent in Spanish a plus

Job Title:  Customer Service Clerk I

Status: Part-Time
Weekly Hours: 16 hours per week; includes weekends and evening hours

Overview: WPL staff members put quality in people’s lives by listening to constituents’ needs, identifying community issues, and responding with relevant solutions while responsibly managing resources. Library Services staff ensures all patron requests are satisfied with quality customer service at all times. Customer Service team members serve as the first contact for patrons in person and on the phone and answer basic questions about library services, assist the public in using library equipment, check out materials and collect fees and fines when patrons are unable to use self-service circulation equipment, and create and maintain patron records.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
College degree or experience preferred
1 year of experience in customer service

Skills:
Pleasant personality, able to work with a diverse public and staff
Excellent listening and telephone skills
Able to work efficiently and independently and complete assignments with limited supervision
Able to accurately handle and account for money
Familiar with computer productivity software, e-mail and timesheets
Sound decision maker, able to respond appropriately in interpreting and applying policy
Able to accurately type and/or put items in order, alphabetically and numerically
Fluent in English, oral and written; fluent in Spanish a plus
