August 24 - Downhome Sophisticates

Concert Image:

A performance by Downhome Sophsticates includes a rich variety of sounds and rhythms. Though they feature many standards: classic songs by Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael and Cole Porter, their sets nearly always include some classic soul or blues by Al Green or Muddy Waters, more contemporary selections by Tom Waits, Bob Dylan or Harry Connick Jr., and the occasional chestnut from the 21st century by the likes Gnarls Barkley, Weezer or Jack Johnson.

Combining the intimacy of a folk group, the improvisation of a jazz combo, and the energy of a rock or blues band, the Downhome Sophsticates are versatile performers who can excite an audience with a spirited concert or keep the dance floor crowded.
