The Waukegan Public Library serves an ethnically and culturally diverse community of approximately 90,000. We are seeking an outgoing, service oriented staff to learn and grow in the profession, in a stimulating and challenging environment.

Title: : Reference Services Manager

Salary: Salary Range of $44,000 - $50,000 per year

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, includes some evening and weekend hours

Description of Duties:
Staffs the Adult and Children's Reference Desks for half of work time, including one evening per week and one weekend per month
Assists in hiring, trains immediately after hiring, motivates, evaluates per policy, and supervises departmental staff daily
Produces schedules and timesheets on regular basis
Produces statistical reports monthly
Participates in annual planning and budgeting for departments' needs as necessary
Familiar with popular materials and informational websites for reader's advisory services to adults, teens and children
Prepares error free bibliographies, path finders and website lists as needed
Coordinates and participates in visits to the library and outreach activities of staff as needed
Works with other community agencies and organizations
Effectively and efficiently assists patrons with questions about computers and other library equipment

Skills and Qualifications:
ALA Accredited Master degree in library science
Five years experience in reference services; experience working with children
At least one year supervisory experience
Strong supervisory skills
Pleasant personality, able to work with a diverse patron and employee base
Creative problem solver
Excellent listening and telephone skills
Sound decision maker, able to respond appropriately in interpreting and applying policy
Able to work independently
Familiar with internet resources and search strategies, computer productivity software
Knowledge of materials for all ages, both current and classic
Excellent English communication skills, written and oral, Spanish language skills a plus
Team player who works well with people of all ages
Displays a positive attitude and a strong public service orientation
